Mt Kinabalu

“Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to the mystery why we climb.” — Greg Child

One of the most humbling experiences I’ve had to date. Wasn’t an easy climb despite all the training I did. Plus, my mind wasn’t quite there during the climb – I kept worrying about work (I’ve been busy with work hence my disappearance for a few weeks). But the moment I reached the summit, all was right with the world again. I can’t put into words exactly what felt right, or what made it feel right – but I just stood there and smiled. Once again, I’ve done something I never imagined possible.

Time flies. It’s been 10 years since my dad passed on, and while I allow myself to be sad this one day a year, I felt almost no sadness last Sunday. Even when I went hiking alone so I can allow myself to feel pathetically sad to the core, sadness just didn’t wash over me like it used to in the years past. Perhaps it is true, that time heals all wounds. Or maybe I’ve grown.

Anyways, I’ve crossed off another bucket list item. I can’t believe it took me so long to cross it off. I found courage in the most unlikely place, and I’m glad I did.

More than half of 2013 has passed. Gosh. But the heavens were kind. Just when I felt like I haven’t accomplished much this year, BOOM! Crossed off 2 bucket list goals within a weekend. Saturday (15 Jun) marked the opening of JEM, the new mall at Jurong East, and the launch of our third rack retail presence in Singapore. Woohoo! Then two days later, we hit 10K fans on Facebook – MAJOR MILESTONE!

So now that I’m back in Singapore and very much adjusted back to the daily grind, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the year. Fingers crossed!

Dragon’s Back

I did it! I conquered the Dragon’s Back hike! It took me about 2.5 hours to finish the hike which ends at the lovely Big Wave Beach. Kayan and I chilled there for an hour over overpriced sodas and fries hoping to catch the sunset but we were blocked by some mountains. And OMG I have to say this – YOU CAN SURF AT BIG WAVE BEACH! But with the temperature at 18 deg, I wouldn’t dare brave the sea.  But still, super shiok!

This week was insane. Insanely busy. But busy is good. Finally feeling rested after the crazy weekend. It started with a photoshoot, then setting up the studio for the next day’s warehouse sale, rushing home to shower then turning up for a gathering with my friends at Sentosa, then back home for 4 hours of sleep and BOOM! WAREHOUSE SALE DAY.

The turnout was HUGE and I could barely catch my breath. 2 hours after doors opened, I drove back to get more stocks! To be honest, we didn’t expect such a crowd. All of us were crossing our fingers, praying that people will still come despite it being out of the way, plus a ton of other fleas/warehouse sales were happening all around Singapore. BUT, when I arrived at 930am, THERE WERE ALREADY PEOPLE QUEUEING. To put into perspective how epic that was, doors were supposed to open at NOON. So imagine how excited and stressed out I was when we started seeing the queue snake around the entire floor!

Very very very grateful to my mom for helping us out that day, and to my cousins – Doug, Michelle, Jacelyn – who initially came just to shop, but stayed on to help with crowd control and to watch over our booth. YOU GUYS ARE OUR BIGGEST SUPPORTERS! THANK YOU! And also to Patrick and Conny, for providing us with the venue and helping out throughout the day 🙂 And of course, my darling sister, for without her, the event wouldn’t have even happened. I am very proud of you ❤

Woohooo! Completed my first ever half marathon today and I feel amaaaaazing! Couldn’t have done it without Sharon, for signing up and running alongside me the entire race, and my cousins who trained up with me over the past few months. The weather was perfect and the route was amazing. Sharon and I even stopped at Universal Studios Singapore to snap a photo with a Sesame Street van (sadly there was a queue for the Penguins of Madagascar). Lol! Can’t wait to sign up for my next race!

Run for Hope

I RAN MY FIRST 10K TODAY!!! AND I RAN FROM START TO FINISH!!! Hohoho. So very happy. I was about to give up at the last kilometer but I told myself “you’ll regret it even more if you stopped.” Wow, the power of the mind. Lol. Then Sharon and I hung out for a bit in school, and I KO-ed once I got home. Photos at the start and at the end –

Woke up in the afternoon to catch a movie with Jason and I have to say, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of the few movies that does justice to the book! I remember reading The Hunger Games and felt that the movie left out so many good parts. One thing though, I wished the movie emphasized all the quotes mentioned in the book. Cos if you didn’t know about the quotes prior to watching the movie, e.g. “And in that moment, I swear we were infinite”, you wouldn’t smile so happily like I did when I heard it. Just anticipating him narrating it when they were in the tunnel was so exciting.
