Fair warning, talking bout death below. So here goes.
I was surfing around on Facebook, checking out who’s birthday was coming up and I went to my friend’s fb wall only to realize that he passed away 8 months ago in a drowning accident. He was a friend of a Korean exchange student living in my hall and I’ve only hung out with them once or twice. I didn’t know him very well, but I was still shocked nonetheless.
To get to the point, it’s scary how fragile life is. You grow older and realize that people are slipping away. A classmate of mine passed away 2 years ago in a jet ski accident right after he finished serving the army. Ivan’s cca-mate also passed away this year. These are people who aren’t even 25, and yet they’re gone just like that.
The thing about death is, even if you don’t know the person well, it just hits you. It makes you realize how little time we all have on this earth, how we should show the people we love more care and concern, and how easily life is taken away from us, be it because of poor health or simply a freak accident. We all talk about the big dreams we have, goals we wanna achieve, but these people were robbed of all that. So yeah, I think we often take for granted the simple fact that we’re still alive.
